Anyone With An Older Four Winds

I just purchased a 2001 31ft Four Winds Class C. First problem I have is the heater doesn't work. Not sure where to start looking for problems.
Next problem is I went in to wash dishes the other day and hooked up the hose. Shortly later the rug was soaked in bathroom and outside bath door. Some dripping under rig. Of course I disconnected the hose. Even though I knew better I didn't have a pressuer reducer on. Is it possible I blew a hose or fitting? Not sure where to look. Took off the panel under sink but it is very small and didn't feel wet. Couldn't really get to the hoses. Not sure where else to look. The one on the outside of shower is dry.
I have been hooked up several times before and all was fine, that is why I am thinking something blew. Help try to diagnose this please..
  • If you can afford it, call a mobile RV repair guy in your area or take the rig to a repair place. It sounds as if there is no 12 volt house battery power to your furnace(heater). It could be something as simple as a poor ground connection. The blower should at least run if the furnace is getting power.Make sure that your auxiliary battery switch is in the right position for 12 volt items to get power. Chances are you won't be able to fix a plumbing problem on your own either. It would be good if you can find an honest local repair service that you can contact for advice with problems or service as needed. Don't let people take advantage of your position, get a second opinion and estimates if they want to do major repairs/replacements. You need to buy a good "how to" book on RV use and maintenance and learn to check and maintain your house and starting batteries, etc., etc.

The On/Off switch for my heater (on the bottom edge of the thermostat) is very stiff to move from Off to On and back. Set the thermostat higher than the present temperature indication then be sure it is switched to On. Make sure the LP gas is turned on outside.

I had the same problem. I found that switch only after I took the cover off.
  • When you turn the thermostat up, the furnace does not immediately start. I may take several minutes for it to come up to temperature so that the fan will start. On mine, just about the time I think it is not working, the fan comes on and all is well. Make sure your propane is on and that the lines are purged of air. Does the stove light? If not, the tank could be shut off or it may be empty. If the stove lights, try the furnace several times: 1 Turn the switch to on. 2 Turn up the thermostat. 3 Wait several minutes and see what happens. If no heat, turn off the switch and let it sit for five minutes to reset itself and then go back to step 1. Follow this procedure several times. It may take several tries to purge any air in the gas line. If it tries to light and doesn't fire the internal safety controls will shut off and require you to reset. That is why you shut it off and wait five minutes. All the above assumes that you have the necessary 12 volt power available.

Good luck and keep us posted
  • Just to let you know. I brought the RV in to a repair shop. I was afraid to fool with it.. Thanks for the help..
