Not necessarily so. Yes, purchasing any used RV (especially something as complex as a DP) involves some risk. It is up to the buyer to minimize that risk. We have bought two used DP's and ended up with good coaches in both cases. Both were bought from reputable dealers.
My rules for the dealer: Will only consider a one owner coach. Will only consider if dealer can put me in touch with previous owner. Must have service records. I did my own inspection since I have owned RV's since 1985 but if I were you, I would find a qualified independent inspector for any coach you consider.
I would run away from that coach and dealer based on your posts. Take your time and do more looking. Do your research and find a better dealer. The Dynasty was a well built, high end coach in its day with a lot of complex features. However, if it was not properly cared for, it could be a money pit nightmare. Also, all DP's are rolling money pits, IMO. We love ours but it is not cheap to keep.
Thing is I have been looking for almost 6 months and it took me several months just to decide what brand I even wanted. Because I’m towing a fully loaded crew cab that’s going to weigh right around 10,000 pounds and doing a lot of traveling through the mountains, I knew I wanted the 500 hp and tag axle and they are hard to find!
Most are mid to high 300’s and if you find a 425 you’re doing good. I just don’t have the mental wherewithal to keep looking forever and the price on this unit is anywhere from 30 to 70 undervalue so if I have to invest some money so be it. I’m going to have to rest in the knowledge that it’s a very well-built rig and let it carry itself from there..
Again, not liking the salesman and being aware that he could be a bit of a scam artist doesn’t necessarily mean anything and it sounds to me like he doesn’t have a clue about what may or may not be wrong with this coach. But his actions are not necessarily indicative that there are problems with the coach and honestly I don’t think I will ever know until I get on the road and find out the hard way.
But knowing he is the type that could be aware of an issue and not disclose it is the scariest part of all, but doesn’t mean that there is an issue he’s trying to hide just because he’s the type that would hide it!
I haven’t taken it on a test drive yet because I’ve never driven one so I need to spend a couple hours with the mechanic driving it and learning it, so we will definitely get some usage on it at that time and I plan on spending one night in it with everything hooked up. When that happens I will post here and let everyone know I am inside and maybe some will be able to guide me with what to look for.
I have owned a few travel trailers so I’m familiar with the basic concept. But let’s just say I plan on doing things that normally I would not because of this type salesman and that could really turn out to be a good thing because I’m going to be extra cautious when normally I would not. But I have absolutely no intention of signing on the dotted line until we drive it and I spend the night in it and have in writing every single thing that they are going to fix!
