Aqua Hot Satisfaction

I have an older Aquahot system in my 2001 Beaver Coach and like it. It is a radiant type heat so it heats quickly and quietly. I use it for both heat and for my hot water for showers and hot water. They are expensive systems and parts are not cheap. I have trouble shot mine a few times and repaired some issues. Also I do the yearly maintenance myself.

Blunder? Agua Hot and Hydra Hot have been around far longer than basement air in MH's, it was just under a different name such as Vehicle Systems, Webasto etc etc. My coach has the Webasto and it still functions as designed and still serviced by Aqua Hot(same parts).

On edit....Mine works as described above. If and when I use it, no additional heating source is necessary!

A roof air heat pump is only good down to around 40 degrees or so then you need propane.

Yes, they are all they're cracked up to be.

We use ours on 120 VAC 90% of the time and only turn on the diesel when it's either colder than 55 outside or for showers.

Our other coach had a Hurricane system which is simply a different Hydronic heating system but worked very well.

For us, a Hydronic heating system, regardless of the make, would be on the absolute must have list.

They do take some $$$$ for maintenance but worth every penny.

What is the maintenance associated with them? Cleaning?

We're new to Class A coaches, and our 2009 Mandalay 43A has the Aqua Hot system for hot water and comfort heating. So far, the hot water is great, but I have a question...

We dry camp about 50% of the time. Does the Aqua Hot system provide coach heating using 12-volt power, or will it only heat the coach using AC? I understand the water CAN be heated using AC, I just don't know if I can heat the coach using 12-volt DC power.

I WAS one of the folks that thought that an Aqua Hot was an overpriced gadget. I was WRONG! In our current coach it was standard equipment and boy has it made me a believer. I would never have another coach without one.

It's a diesel and 12V system. Some models have a 120V heater that can be used when AC is available.

Yearly maintenance is the fuel filter and fuel nozzle. Beyond that is coolant, pumps, controller, etc.

Once you've had it... it will be on your must have list. My AquaHot has a single 120V heating element that supplies all the hot water and heating when we snowbird is S Fla during the winter. Enough hot water for two back to back showers... the same at the end of the day traveling as the engine heats the water. Since I'm paying for the electric I use my heat pumps (most efficient way to heat) for most of the heating as it rarely gets below 36.

When boondocking you have to turn the diesel boiler on and the pumps, controller, and fans are all 12V. I do the yearly maintenance about every five years (300 hours) as I'm not using the diesel boiler very often. You can tell when the nozzle needs to be replaced as the exhaust starts to smoke and have a diesel smell to it. I also have a metal 90 degree sweep that I put on the exhaust if I have a neighbor on that side... partly to decrease the noise the burner makes.

The diesel boiler is around 40,000 BTU and the electric element is only 5,500 BTU. When boondocking I only turn the diesel on after supper for the dishes and for showers... 1-2 hours of boiler run time as it heats the water very quickly. I turn the boiler off after the first shower as there is enough heated water for the second one. My total cost on my A Hot is less than $250 in 11 years... some people pay that each year regardless of how many hours the boiler runs because somewhere it says you have to do a yearly maintenance.

It's funny, being in So Cal I never really thought too much about the Webasto system other than it worked when I got the motor home. Then it stopped working even though I really didn't use it for 10+ year's I never gave it another thought until last year in Quartzsite where the Aqua guy was servicing other rigs. Long story short, after all these years of non use, he had it running perfectly well in 30 seconds(a reset button I didn't find). I did have it serviced with a new filter and other small items...it works great now.
