It all depends on the motorhome and the 5er. A 40 foot 5er with three slides will have more room than a 40 foot Class A with 2 slides. On Storage I've seen 5ers with lots more storage than I have. But I haven't seen 5ers with more storage than a Bus conversion that has all the huge bays underneath. So yes you can get a Class A with more space and more storage, but if you compare the dollars you'll likely be paying a lot more for that space and storage.
Agree with all you said. I guess when I think of class A there are obviously more than DP's . I just wonder what they compared them too.
I think you have to compare Apples to Apples. I have a 35 foot DP with three slides on a Freightliner Chasis. I have storage bays underneath, but they aren't huge and they are a little hard to get in to. If I compared my DP with a similar quality 35 foot 5er with three slides, it's going to have more interior space because it doesn't have a cockpit and it doesn't have all the space taken up by the engine compartment. And that 35 foot 5er is going to have one of those huge compartments up front that is real easy to get into that I would love to have in my motorhome. I don't have any exterior storage that I can get into without getting down on my knees. I'd love to have something up at a chest high level that I could put all my commonly used stuff in.
One thing I know for sure, is my next motorhome is going to come with big basement compartments that have those big drawers that you can pulled out to get to all your junk.
