If "Looks & Style" is just as important to you as functionality, you might be able to find a shop that can add the same compponents our RV manufacture puts on all it's rigs, both Sprinter and E-Series. The integrated step is friendly, functional, strong, and lights up nicely at night. If interested, call Phoenix USA and ask them who supplies them these components.
The door covers the step, exposed when the cab door is open. I wish I had a picture handy of the step with the door open.
Here is the same step on our E350. We don't have physical ailments but we both use the step all the time because it is just the right size placed perfectly.
