Atlanta

Traveling from Ohio to Fl. Am looking for a quick way around Atlanta Ga ? Don't suggest I-77 Thanks
  • I have done most of the "alternative" routes. I have found I-75 straight thru is the best of them all. Just try and stay out out the right outside lane as sometime it is exit only and it may be hard to merge to the left.
  • The only true way "around" Atlanta without being involved in the horrible Atlanta traffic is 77. I have never been on 77 so I am curious why you would not want to make that trip. Hills of WV? Tolls? Thanks.
  • No easy way around or through Atlanta. After 10 AM and before 3 PM weekdays, and all day on the weekend take I 75 straight through Atlanta. Other times take I 285 on the west side.

The quickest way is straight through on I-75 non-rush-hour. You could get on US 27 south of Chattanooga and then work your way back over to I-75 or take 98 on into Florida. It would help to know where in Florida.
  • We do that trip quite often. When in a car, we try to time the trip through late at night or on a weekend using the HOV lanes.

When in the motorhome, we take I285 on the west side.

There is NO quick, convenient way around Atlanta.

IF.....you are using I-75 for most of your trip, just time it so that you don't hit there at either rush hour and just gut it out. Most of the time mid-day and evening it's not bad at all. Most times.

And don't make the mistake of thinking that the 285 loop bypass would be better; it almost NEVER is. Semi-trucks are not allowed on 75/85 through downtown so they are all on the outer loop.
  • My best suggestion is to time your trip so you can drive through on a Sunday. We last drove through Atlanta on I-20 west to east on a Sunday morning and it was a piece of cake.
