Auto generator start & AC

Hello everyone,

My owners manual is a little vague on how this works. This coach is newish to us and this is the first time we would like to use the ags and ac.

Here is my question. I can set the ags to come on at a certain temperature. I can also set the ac to come at a certain temperature. I realize that no two thermostats will ever work exactly synchronized. How do you set the ags and ac so the ac will not attempt to come on before the generator comes on?

Should I set the ags a few degrees lower than the ac or just set them both at the same temperature?

Thanks in advance for your input,

Stuart

  • Thanks everyone,

I will give these a try and see what works best.

  • I set my AC several degrees colder than the AGS to be sure that I get the maximum benifit of running the generator. I am trying to keep my pets cool. If you have two ACs you may want to be sure that the generator will start both. I have had issues with mine so for now I just leave on AC enabled while the RV is unattended. If both ACs are needed I just leave the generator on manually. Keep in mind that if you touch the manual controls at all the AGS function is turned off and has to be reset(at least it does on mine).
  • The generator will not come on line, and the transfer switch will not shift power, until the generator has reached sufficient speed and is prepared to handle the load. Most AC units will also start with the fans first, followed by the compressor, after a short delay. I don't believe you should have any problem IF everything is working the way they are designed, no matter how you set the thermostat. Just set the generators to come on when the coach starts to get too hot.
  • With most modern built in Gensets. There is a Sufficient lag after startup to allow it to produce full power before any appliances can try to start.

I don't believe shutting the Genset off while the A/C is running is harmful to either unit.

I recall being told by one of My Peers that the Older Units often suffered damage .
  • I would set the AGS lower than the A/C stat
What is setting for turning off the ags
I wouldn't want it temp controlled
I wouldn't want it to turn off while the a/C is running
