Hi FC
I have a mail box in Maine as I am across the border on a regular basis.
I often get things shipped to my PO Box to take advantage of free delivery offered in the US. I declare it when returning to Canada and pay the HST. There is no duty on this type of item.
In the case of the awning I had it delivered to my home. The cost to get it delivered to my door was only about twenty bucks more than getting it shipped to my Maine PO Box. The extra cost was insignificant so hey, why not?
I always check what shipping to my home will cost and if it is not much more than shipping to Houlton Maine then direct to my house it is.
Now some items, the cost of shipping into Canada is beyond expensive. My base plate for instance $379.00 US and free shipping to Houlton Maine, Pay HST when entering Canada.
To have that item shipped to my home was an extra $140.00 so no question that item went to my mail box.
