We also bought the wooden cutting board stove topper. Our rattle turned out to be that the range top was a little loose where it fits to the counter. Since it comes off for cleaning, I was able to bend the springy tabs to put more tension on it. That worked for us.
Can you put a folding shelf on the panel to the right of the cabinet door that is below the sink? That seems like a great location for one. I put a 120v outlet there, so I have been hesitant to cover that with a folding shelf.
