No, quite the opposite on the lubes. You don't want a penetrating oil like WD40 or PB Blaster. Those are too light and short-lived. The steps lube is more like motorcycle chain oil. It goes on light, penetrates, and thickens up to last a long time. I suspect spray lithium grease would be good too. I used an old can of PJ1 chain lube on mine and it worked great.
