Did a 2 week 3000+ mile trip back in Sep/Oct.
Traveled from the Chicago area to Norfolk (Portsmouth) VA, to see my friends daughters' ship sail back from a mission. It was rainy w/ flood condition in the VA area. A few days stay at First Landing SP, then in Newport News. We then traveled down to Tampa FL for a few days (Stayed at Manatee River Sp in FL) before heading back.to IL.
Had to take the detour because I-95 was closed in SC. The detour took us into Columbia SC, which was also hit badly. It took awhile to find a route that could be navigated. At one point I was going down a unlit road around midnight. Around a curve I noticed less and less pavement- and more and more mud. A little further I passed an abandoned car, then the road abruptly ended with a big mud slide blocking the way. At the top of the mud hill I saw another abandoned 4 wheel drive vehicle that apparently got stuck! I was thankful for the rear camera that I installed last year as I carefully backed down the curvy road until I could turn around! As I was backing up, a minivan passes me! The driver came to his senses shortly after, also turning around. It was an inconvenience for me, but my heart goes out to those that were affected by the massive rainfall.
As for the RV...
I did lose my running lights the first night. It was a blown fuse, probably because the trailer hitch harness was loose and dragging on the ground. Some wires were exposed after the abuse. After taping things up and replacing the fuse, the lights were OK for the rest of the trip.
I discovered a rusted tail-pipe that was temporarily 'bandaged'. It also appears that the wheel wells are not too effective at keeping the water out. The interior rug was damp on both sides in that area after driving through some standing water. (Only a few puddles, nothing too deep)
I'll have to replace the drain valves. I seems like the rear drain area may have dragged the ground, perhaps on a steep driveway or something, causing a stress crack. The plastic was epoxied for the short term.
I consider these issues relatively minor. The MH started and ran like a champ for the trip. MPG was 10-11 driving mostly at 70 mph.
In addition to the parks mentioned, my Aunt's house, camp Walmart, Ohio Turnpike rest area, and a Truck stop were utilized during the journey.
The MH is winterized now, but I hope to still use it before it gets too cold.
