I invested in another (I consider valuable) gadget for checking the condition of my tires. Radio Shack had a sale on infrared thermometers some time back. Probably the biggest killer of tires is heat from an under inflated tire. With this infrared thermometer, I merely point the red dot on each tire and take a temperature reading. This needs to be done fairly quickly after a period of driving on the highway. If they are all within a few degrees of each other, I feel a lot better.
