Don't get too upset about the mpg, you have a big vehicle and did some serious climbing.
I found that "Mr. Clean Magic Eraser" works incredibly on bugs. I even have a 'generic' brand of it, and it did great. Also gets off streaks, and dirty spots that accumulate on areas with sealer.
BTW, it can be used wet or dry. I used it wet for the rv.
