That is the way it is supposed to work anyway. The isolator is supposed to connect the two batteries and let the alternator charge them. If the coach battery is either getting old or is low on water/electrolyte it may not take charge the way it should. I replaced mine about 2 years ago, I then put a 60 amp charger on the old one to really heat up the battery. It seemed to warp the plates, flake off the sulfation and then took a normal charge. I now have it in the garage for a spare.
