Sorry to hear of your Beagle mix's issue w/ travel. Perhaps a folding kenned while en route to maybe give the pup a sense of enclosure/safety.
After our black dog, Happy, died, our Beagle mix, Peanut, has started jumping and staying in my lap as soon as we start moving for the whole trip. I am not the driver, and so far am tolerating her, but she is 45 lbs...
