Wow, there are surprising number of you with similar requirements (or having experiences right now!) with mine...
I started off with the grand plan of going full-timing, which my DW initially agreed. So I researched into full-timing 5th wheels and Diesel pushers. But as time went by, she also liked the idea of building a new home in the suburb area of Toronto without giving up the RV life. She wants a small garden, a place for (eventual) grand kids to visit, comfort of having a permanent place to stay, etc. So we've decided to build a house before getting an RV and once built, we will do most of our RVing in the spring/summer/autumn, but we may try winter birding down south once in a while. This also means we are no longer considering 40ft FW or MH. We've been tent camping for many years, so any RV will be a luxury (at least initially).
One thing that especially caught my attention was the comment on the inconvenience of 24+ft on national parks. Also, a comment about B being far easier to drive around compare to a B+ or a C. I think most showers in these RVs will be ok for us but somewhat concerned about their holding tank sizes. How much time does it take for you to dump grey/black tanks and fill up fresh water tanks? Since we are going to be driving it around a lot, I guess going to a dumping station isn't going to be an issue.
Although some of you made a point on the solar already, I still would like to get both LP genset and solar options. We are somewhat power hungry, and I'm very gadget happy so more power the better!
Our sleeping habit are totally the opposite - she is a morning person, and I'm a night person. A separate bed and a dinging area is a must as a result of this. The bed area will stay as a bed area 99% of the time with few exceptions.
Here's some details on the top two (so far):
Roadtrek CS Adventurous:
- 22.8ft length, so it should be good for most national parks.
- 9.6ft height
- 6.7ft width - this is a true B class, not B+. But it is on dually wheels.
- Tanks - 33/21/10g. How long can you get by on that 10g black tank?
- The bed will pretty much stay
LTV Unity Corner Bed:
- 24.6ft length - is this still good for most national park sites?
- 10.5ft height - I read somewhere that once to go over 10ft, it becomes a nuisance. True or false?
- 7.8ft width - more than 1ft wider than the CS. Obviously the floorplan is quite a bit better but if it limits us in places we can go too much, I'd rather not go with this option.
- Tanks - 36/37/29g. This is why I keep coming back to the Unity. 29g black tank, plus larger grey tank sounds so much more comforting.
When we build a new house, we plan to build a garage bid enough to fit both our crossover vehicle and the RV, so I suppose a bigger RV also means slightly larger garage size, which is a minus.
