I've been following this thread with interest but Davydd always does a good job describing the virtues of a B so there is not much else to say. Of course he has had more Bs than most of us. :)
We've had our LTV for 9 years now and have 118K miles on it. We, like the OP, are short (5'6" and 5'4") and wanted an RV to see the USA and Canada in detail.
We have the LTV FreeSpirit 210B 3S that sleeps three and if I choose I can use the 3rd bed up front so that gives us more flexibility sleeping wise. We sometimes don't put the rear bed down and my wife sleeps crosswise on the back sofa and I sleep on the easily set up front bed. I view it as a hassle to set up the rear bed but if you put it into perspective it can be done in 5 minutes.
The 3rd bed also has given me the flexibility to twice take two teenage grandsons (two different pairs) on 6-week trips to Alaska with me using the front bed. In this case, we never put the table in to make a queen/king rear bed but use the folded down sofa and side benches as twin beds.
Some observations about some of the items discussed on this thread:
- Diesel is a little more inconvenient than gas but access has never been a problem and a turbo diesel is a wonder as far as capability vs horsepower/mileage. I keep latex gloves in the door pocket so that if I see the diesel pump handle is compromised I put a glove on my right hand and avoid the plague of smelling diesel on my hand forever.
- A class B has advantages that outweigh the need for a permanent bed setup in my opinion.
- The LTV permanently attached drain hose for the waste tanks is a great arrangement. Dumping is fast, cleaning the hose is a non-issue, etc.
- Waste tank capacity is practically never an issue.
- We love being able to go anywhere.
- We would make the same choice again in a heartbeat.
- Our blog (in signature) shows the range of terrain we have traversed, never a power problem.
- We shower every other day when traveling, always use campground showers, use RV parks vs primitive sites accordingly.
I could go on but did I say we LOVE our B. :)
