Back up camera reversed

I have a "new to me" 98 Coachmen Santara and the back up camera is reversed... as in when I am driving and see in the camera a car coming up on my left side, it is actually coming up on my right side! The monitor does not have any button on it to reverse the image. Anyone have any clue on how to fix this? It will be almost impossible to use this way.

Thanks!
  • Thanks guys,
I got it figured out. The system is a Voyager by Audiovox (Purchased by Jensen). I found an old scanned instruction manual for my model (AOM-70) on line. Unlike 99% of their models that have a switch on the monitor itself, this one had the switch on the camera. I pushed the switch and now it looks like it should!!
  • New cameras and monitors with the function built in are good quality and dirt cheap on EBay.

    Rich
  • Is it an old style monitor, the kind with a small picture tube. If so I can send you a picture on which wired inside the monitor that needs to be switched. You'll have to desolder two wires and resolder them reversed. I had to do mine that way as I didn't have a switch to reverse it.

My monitor is a B&W about a 5 inch screen that is mounted under the cabinet above the driver seat.
  • If there's no switch and your RV has a rear window, there's another way. Mount a mirror towards the top of the window, angled at 45 degrees. Bring your camera inside and mount it on the wall, looking up at the mirror. Extend the wiring from the exterior camera mount to your new indoor one. That gets you a "real" mirror image. Put a panel over the old location to prevent water ingress.

A friend of mine, whose RV didn't have a back-up camera, rigged up a computer camera this way and saved the expense of buying a waterproof one. Since it was a wireless camera, he didn't have any wiring issues. He used a retired small lap-top on the doghouse to view the image.

Second, both cameras and monitors come in two flavors
Some have that switch, some do not.

Reversing WITHOUT that switch is a job for an electronics engineer, I have the knowledge, and the skills to do the job, but no where near good enough to explain it.

If you can not find the switch contact the device manufacturer for instructions.
  • I had one that was only a mirror image which is what you're doing

and I just adjusted to it because there was no other way around it.....It was Dyslexic I think
  • If it is NOT on the front of the monitor, it will be on the back right next to where your cable plugs in. The old Jensen monitors had it located there.
  • my button, to the far right, changes it forwards, backwards, etc.
I don't remember the label, it didn't make a lot of sense but it fixed it.
