Base Plate Blues

Bought new toad yesterday 2017 Ford Fiesta SE manual shift to replace my old toad 2008 Ford Focus manual shift. Called blue ox for base plates and they said don't have one for the SE with 1.6 engine only SE with eco boost engine . Prior to purchase I checked blue ox web site and verified base plate was available for Ford Fiesta with manual shift . Didn't know that some models of manual shift weren't available. At that time I didn't know what model of manual shift I was buying . So I guess next step is to check with the other two manufacturers to see if they make one. Any suggestions?
  • Your profile says you live in a big town. If you can't find someone in town willing to custom build you something that would work, time to put that car back on the market. But a good custom welding shop should be able to handle it.
  • If you have a Blue Ox tow bar and end up with a Roadmaster base plate, I believe there's adapters to hook up your Blue Ox to the Roadmaster base plate

Just because it's a manual tranny does not mean it's towable...what does your manual say? If it is a 5-6 spd there is a possibility it can't be towed.
  • Look into Blue Ox fit program. If you can get your vehicle to them they will use your car to make a baseplate, install it, give you a tow bar all for free! And they give you 25% off any other accessories they have. Call them and talk to them. We did it for our truck as they didn't have a baseplate for our model when we bought it. An incredible deal!
  • Captpar, I had the same thing happen. Blue Ox didn't make a base-plate for the MKX. But, Roadmaster did!

I was going to get a new tow bar anyway as my Blue Ox was 10yrs. old. So, I killed two birds with one stone and went totally with Roadmaster. I also had the SMI supplemental brake installed on the toad.

    Safe travels,

yep, only "valid" source is owner's manual. not some third party wannabe.

  • Yes it can be towed 4 wheels down as per owners manual ,guess I'll go with demo or road master.
    Thanks for the info.
  • The one thing I don't care for with the Roadmaster is that there is a lot of 'stuff' on the front of the toad. It's just not as clean looking. Of course all of it comes off and the front of the car has the same look as the Blue-Ox connections.

I don't want to drive around with all that stuff on the front of the toad when not connected.
