One other question on the Workhorse. Was it any better riding or better handling than the previous GM chassis?
I don't know enough to make a wise purchase of the Ford V10. I have a friend who has pulled a large TT with his 1-ton with early V10, but he ended up replacing that engine a couple years ago. Don't know why. I've read a lot about the issue, and independent plug hole fixes, and I wouldn't be surprised that some of the V10 units with 40k-60k might still have the original plugs, and I've read that the problems can come with plug changes.
I'm eying a 2001 8.1L Workhorse with a little over 40k miles that is at the upper end of my price range but still learning.
