there was inadequate air flow past the manifolds for cooling. at one time camping world sold after market baffles to direct the air, then later chevy added the baffles. I would be much more worried about the overheating issue with chevy than the spark plugs on the ford.
concerning the first New ford engine vs the later ones with more HP, I was talking to a fella at the former KOA east of Nashville who had a newer one and was bragging it up. then we compared mileage and he almost started to cry. mine was considerably better than his.
