The 1991 Class C we just got has a battery compartment that will hold two 24s or 27s but not a pair of 6s. They are too tall by maybe 1/2 inch, so I cut away part of the "lip" (whatever that is called) the door sits against and 6s just go in.
However, still not very satisfactory, so down lower there is a compartment with a maybe 11" high door, but is over a foot high inside. I wanted to put my batteries in there and drill a hole above for the wires.
No way to get my batteries in upright through that door. So I tipped them over sideways even though a little electrolyte spilled, and once in, I put them upright. Wiped up the small spill and now there is room above them to put on the wiring. Ta da!
So for the OP, just tip them over so they will come out the door, then put them back upright.
