Please believe me. This is what I successfully for expensive boats before the Depression slammed us down....
Lead/Acid (LA) batteries do not like to play nice in parallel. One will hog the charge current and you are lucky if you end up with AH rating that is 1.75 the total. If you do not charge them separately, then 1.5 is the best you will probably see. That is only if the two jars are identical - like sequential serial numbers identical. Paralleled 6V jars do not have this problem.
