6v series vs. 12v parallel

GC thick fiberglass mats make for higher impedance. Surface area makes for higher CCA and higher rated low tier amp hour rate. Sponge plate is the weakest for cycling but yields the highest car rated performance numbers.

Would take an immense thickness of Pb to increase impedance. Would love to have those 52" tall .725" plate WWII submarine batteries (Exide). At surface they boiled the bejeezus out of them shedding plate material like dandruff to fast charge then dive. Depth charging snapped thinner plates.

Had champagne income to purchase 1,650 amp hours of 12 cells. Danged sub batteries were rated 3,100 amp@ 20 hours. Well I er (fool around) all day now. Few worries except for possible no next breath.

Need to get our amiable Panda-petter's, to make GOOD 99 dollar AGM batteries. Fat chance of that ever happening.

As a result of the thicker plates voltage drop under load is greater.

The number of cells in a twin 12 volt system is double that of an equivalent amp-hour battery made from twin six volts. That doubles the risk of cell failure. This applies to 12 volt Marine jars, too.

My wish is that I could have six two volt cells of about 800 amp-hours wired in series. Unfortunately I have a beer budget so that is unlikely to happen.

I think for clarity I will state this

Car batteries have lots of Thin plates this gives lots of surface area for chemical reaction to produce electrons quickly
But the plates deteriorate easily

Deep cycle golf cart batteries have fewer plates , that are a lot thicker and last longer

I bought Large Retailer tires. $59.00 each. Two for $157 installed. 45,000 mile wear guarantee. Girl checks worn out tires with 7,500 on them with a tread depth indicator. Result "Sir I cannot warranty these tires. There is 1/32" difference in tread depth wear. The manufacturer will refuse to warranty these tires because of alignment".
Buying DOUGLAS tires was my fault no one else's. Arguing over a dead cell battery with a pimple-faced hamburger-flipper reject was my fault as well. I hope my new Michelins give me more than 7,500 miles treadwear...

Golf car batteries are lavish with lots of acid to plate ratio. Thick glass mats sturdy plate support, large sediment chambers, and very thick high antimony plates. Like putting an Abrams Tank in an arena with a BMW. The BMW will get better gas mileage and run circles around the tank. The end result is inevitable and 3" thick.

when talking about batteries, it seems to me to be self evident

a battery that will fit in a CAR for staring the engine

those are specific set of of sizes/groups

and they do NOT encompass "deep cycle"

they are thin plate, high surge, cold cranking amp, for engine start
and not meant to heavily discharged over and over, the thin plates can;t take the abuse

Group 24, 27 and 29-30-31 use same case for starting and RV batteries.

I tried to make a thick plate 27 through ABC Battery. Utter failure. 45 amp hour capacity 190 CCA. Acid starvation. Can NOT be done with flooded. Lifeline agm is different animal.

As we all know, it was M. Volta who put some electrons in a glass jar and got amperes flowing out of the top, so he said "Eureka", but unfortunately he was in his bathtub at the time and got quite a jolt. Ever since there has been confusion between him in his bathtub and that French Revolution guy (Marat) in his, as to just what happened there.
