Oct 18, 2014My set-up from the factory had two Group 24 12V batteries in parallel. The abuse from the first year of RV shows and the dealer lot caused them to fail after the first year. I was able to get 100% warranty at NAPA. Because of space considerations, my options were limited, however since the dimensions of the Group 27 battery only differs in the length, I was able to fit them in the battery compartment. The bonus is that I gained at least 15% more capacity. My experience and what I get from talking to people at campsites about dry camping is that you have to be smart about energy management. There is just so much energy in whatever batteries you can carry. And, you can't replace that energy as fast as you used it no matter the source. I am not aware of any fossil fueled TVs or sound systems so you have to plug in. I just can't wrap my head around the idea of an electric coffee maker or microwave running off of an inverter. I can make better and faster coffee heating the water on the gas stove and using a cone filter on top of a thermos. I am certain that for one pot of electric coffee, I can kick back an watch football all Sunday on TV. I once saw a guy come out of his RV with a bag of microwave popcorn. I did not hear a generator come on so I assume he had a fairly large inverter.
