Hi,
I added a second charging path with #8 wire. I have manual control over each path. The OEM charging solenoid lasted less than a year, so I upgraded it. I also replaced the OEM 60 amp fuse (after the third one blew) with an auto reset circuit breaker.
I do monitor charging and have seen up to 70 amps. I do also monitor chassis voltage and if it drops below 12.9, I will turn off one charging path to reduce the strain on the alternator.
I chose to add the second charging path between the chassis battery and my second bank of batteries. I can isolate the two banks from one another if needed.
I chose to replace the starting battery with the same group 29 marine batteries I use for the "house". I think this contributes to the chassis computer "seeing" the charging load a bit better.
I'd love to add an external rectifier, but have yet to do so.

Have you guys added anything besides a larger alternator to charge your batteries faster?
