It tells one quite a lot as the battery "percent charge" table supplied with my Lifeline AGMs is specified in terms of voltage. If one knows when to check and how to interpret the numbers it works just fine.
I will no doubt get more exotic in the future (once I get solar on) but the voltmeter works quite well.
