Your engine's alternator charged your batteries while underway.
Was the genset even putting out with 120vac throughout the coach?? Check it's own onboard breakers, if not.
What happens when on shore power and if the same problem, then be looking at the converter or inverter charger. If all ok on shore power, then be taking another look at the genset's output and whether non-existent or possibly a transfer sw. problem.
I mean it's not like you gave us a lot to go on here, other than our imagination.

Some generators have breakers on them that if they are flipped no power goes to the coach.

It is a 2007 Fleetwood Terra with an Onan 5.5 generator. I have no idea of the make of the converter or where tom look for it

Highly likely that the generator does NOT directly charge the batteries, but merely provides 120 VAC to your converter, charger or inverter/charger that will charge the same batteries as it would on shore power.

Give us more details on what rig, generator and converter, charger or inverter/charger you have and we can be of more assistance.

Jack you can not CHARGE a btry in 1 hour PERIOD. JMO

Measure the voltage at the batteries before you charge, then when running the generator, and when running the coach.

Likely the generator voltage is not reaching the batteries by the sound of it, but you will have to trace out the problem starting with the generator output, then generator positive to ground at the batteries and so on.

something is either blown, loose, or disconnected somewhere.
