What's wrong with just a simple switch or knife blade switch to break the circuit?
Mine has a switch by the door and the solenoid is under the bed, near the power panel. I guess they wanted the switch where it is easily accessible, but didn't want to run the converter to battery wire any longer than necessary, and probably didn't want the 12v power line exposed to the world. Mine has worked fine for almost 10 years.
