Battery problems???

Last week on a trip to Missouri we had house battery problems. After being plugged up all night then hitting the road the Not so cold would start beeping "no AC" after less than 1 hour on the inverter. The inverter shut off from "low battery". Starting the generator would solve the problem until we could reconnect to shore power.

Today I checked the batteries and got 12.6V on each of them. I turned the fridge on and within 45 minutes I was at 11.4V on each battery and dropping.

I plugged the coach back in and the charger jumped to 14V bulk charge.

I don't have a load style tester but it looks like my 2009 Walmart Evermax marine batteries are not storing enough energy. They are getting to 13V after charging but drop like a rock when they get the 475 watt load from the fridge.

Is it agreed the batteries need replacing? if so, which 12V deep discharge are the best for the money?

  • Your batteries are 5 years old, I wouldn't even test them.
5 years is about all the longer these wet cells last anymore.
And honestly, I've had just as good of luck with Menards or
Walmart batteries as I've had with Interstate.
That's just my 2 cents, Brian

Take the batteries to an automotive parts place for a load test. It is free.

I just bought this 500 amp carbon pile load tester from Harbor Freight so I can test mine at home. It was $67.71 delivered to my door.

I have 4 6volt batteries and change them after about 4-5 years.

Almost anything except Walmart. Why are you running your refer on inverter?
