The batteries with the most surface area of the lead gridwork have the capability of putting out more amperage.
The batteries with the thickest lead gridwork will usually have a longer life. The purity of the electrolyte and the purity of the water added(tap water vrs distilled water) to the electrolyte will help to determine overall battery life.
As far as what makes one battery better than another is a subjective issue. One person may like one battery better than another because it is cheaper.
I prefer the AGM batteries, which are more expensive, but I do not have to worry about adding water to any of my batteries.
If you boonedock a lot, your battery choice should be different from someone that never parks where shore power is not available.
Too many variables to say that one battery is always better than another.
