Best brake pad to handle the weight/heat? Hawk? EBC?

My pads are done and I don't like throwing mystery pads on there.

(1997 Roadtrek Dodge b3500)

I'd like to assume Roadtrek thought about the brakes before adding a ton of weight to this van.

Some upgrade pads I've found are Hawk HPS, and EBC Yellowstuff. I've used that Hawk compound on my car before and they are popupar with the sports car/auto-x crowd as they can handle more heat, and have more grip, but at the expense of noise and dust. They also made an HD pad which seems marketed to trucks, which I have on my Tacoma.... but is not available for the Roadtrek.

Am I overthinking this? I know ceramic pads are low dust but my experience with them is they perform far worse than oem.
  • I recently replaced my TV (F150) front pads and rotars with HAWK truck/RV pads. We just returned from a 5,500 mile trip to Yosemite and the HAWK pads were a big improvement over the stock pads. So I do disagree with those that say there is no diferance in stock brake pads and aftermarket units. This is not an exact answer to your question but it is my personal experience.
  • EBC Yellow has worked well for me. Any premium pad should have good results. OEM is good too.
  • Haven't used the EBC's but I have used Hawks on my truck. They have superior friction to the stock pads. once they get a tiny amount of heat in them they get even better. They're really nice during stop and go traffic on the freeway they get just warm enough to make applying the brakes with a light touch enough to stop the truck and trailer with less effort.
However, I have found "Evolution Power Stop" to be a bit better. They brake as well as the Hawks even before they get warm.
Neither pad dusts as much as stock pads.
