Battery maintainers don't require removing the caps, but they fail occasionally too, so checking them once a month is advised.
This.......IF they are AGM's.
But yours with caps shouldn't sit that long; 2 months max.
A small automatic tender type charges is probably your best option.
I start mine every 30 days or so and run the engine long enough to get HOT (about 20 minutes). This also tops up the batteries.
