Didn't realize my thread had gone on so long. I found a device that does what I wanted and ordered it. Didn't want the chassis batteries to be constantly charged with a trickle charger and didn't think it a good idea to parallel them with the house batteries.
The Trik-L-Start looks like the best way to keep the chassis batteries voltage from dropping to the point of causing damage without subjecting them to constant charging. While supplying no charging power itself it opens up the positive circuit to tap off power from the house system as needed.
