Bet you never did this before

There can be a bright side. I put an awning on mine for under $600 and pulling away from a parking space one day, ripped the heck out of it and part of the rig. Insurance paid me $1900. I repaired the fiberglass but still need a new awning. I saw my brother get too close to a telephone pole with a rental, so judging from the responses you're club isn't too exclusive.

I use Post It notes on the steering well and calendar reminders on my cell phone or else it WILL happen to me.

I have a checklist on my phone, actually multiple checklists:

If the TT is parked, a list of stuff to check off when getting it ready to use (unlatching the stove vent, for example.)

Leaving the TT (closing all windows, lowering antennas, ensuring the fridge is OK, shutting off the propane, etc.)

Hitching the TT.

I run through these lists at least twice. It is too easy to forget one thing which can cost a lot down the road.

If you change your own oil, don't forget to do ANYTHING.

I have a checklist on my tablet that I use before leaving the house but the fact is it is too long and easy to miss something. After reading all these posts I am going to make a Critical things to check list and post it on the dash. I did once forget to remove the tire chocks but that just stopped me from going anywhere.
I did forget the drain plug in a boat once, luckily the boat filled with water fast enough to stop it from floating off the trailer and I was able to pull it back out and drain it. After that the plug stayed in and I only took it out to drain and put it right back in, and I still checked it every time I hooked up the trailer.
Glad to hear you were able to get it fixed without any permanent damage.

Exactly! A different pair of eyes will catch different things.

In an effort to avoid problems, we have a detailed arrival checklist and a detailed departure checklist.

I bent back the awning by securing it to a tree with a rope, then replaced the ripped out screws to the body of the rv with bigger bolts. added a couple extra to shore it up. Tucked in the part of the awning that was pulled out, and voilà!

All I have to do now is caulk and it's done. Not showroom new, but considering I just saved 2000.00, I couldn't be more impressed with myself! :C
