- GjacExplorer IIII would rather store mine out of the rain and dirt so I put them in the pass thus with the front wheel removed. If my grand son traveled with us one bike goes in the tow car trunk. On newer MH's your won't have a problem structuraly. The ladders are attached with star washers inside the stand offs from the MH to the vertical tubes of the ladder. Handling loads are much greater than static loads. Hitting a pot hole could add a 10 g load to that rusted stand off star washer. I have replaced two of these with though bolts but my MH is 20 years old.
- vjstangeloExplorerThanks to all for the thoughts. My camping bike is well worn and dirt would make it look nicer. :)
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIBikes will get very, very dirty traveling outside. At least get a good bike cover. We had ours special-made by a canvas shop to our measurements.
- xctravelerExplorerRoof rack on the tow'd. Destroyed a couple of nice bikes with exposure to weather and ultimately rocking side to side which snapped the dropouts of the fork of a Cannondale (that was a really rough patch of road).
No bikes anymore :( - EffyExplorer II

I think if your bike weighs more than 250 lbs. then its probably a bad idea to carry them on the ladder. I have carried them on my ladder many times without any issues. I have also carried bikes on a receiver rack on the back of my towd without issue. If secured properly it really doesn't matter much how you carry them.
How do you fasten them and don't they get all scratched up? Also, how do you keep them from covering the right rear lights? - chuckftboyExplorerI think if your bike weighs more than 250 lbs. then its probably a bad idea to carry them on the ladder. - the_silverbackExplorerBike rack on ladder. 2 bikes on bike rack. 70.000 miles. No problems.
- Dick_BExplorerIf you are not into biking in a big way consider buying Dahon foldup bikes and keep them inside when traveling. Another con is that the back of a Class A is VERY dirty as you probably already know.
When we had our sailboat we kept these bikes for riding around the ports we visited and put hundreds of miles on them. - oneolddogExplorerNot where I would want to put them but isn't the ladder rated for approx. 200 lbs?
- I have seen bikes AND extra ladders mounted on the RV ladder for 37 years as a motorhome Service Tech.. Never had those bikes or the extra ladder ever cause a problem. WHAT does make me mad, is when the customer does not remove the items mounted to the ladder and I have to go on top to do repairs. I charge to remove and reinstall those items. Doug
