Bizarre RV Cover event

A question to those of you that cover your class C motorhome. ours sits on the driveway and earlier this week I ran out to put the cover on right before soaking rains were about to start.

I cinched the front and back ties, but did not do the straps underneath as I was short on time. (I've done that a lot in the past.)

this morning, the cover is balled up on the ground. :?

it does not appear that any wrong doing occurred overnight, there is no damage or anything missing.

has anyone had their cover blow off? I did not think it especially windy overnight..very confused.

  • So far we've had 2 wind events with as strong/stronger winds that shifted my cover the 1st time and the anchor screws and bungee cords have held the cover in place with no sliding around the coach.

I had the cover slide around on the coach so 1 side was on the ground and the other was 1/2 way up the side of the MH. I took 4 anchor screws, put 2 on each side of the MH and then used bungee cords to hook the underneath straps to the anchors to prevent the cover from shifting.
And..I thought I was the only one to have problems attaching a cover on my Coachman Class A. That was many years ago. I tried bungee cords and those broke or stretched where they were no longer keeping the tarp very tight. So...I used the "much tougher" rubber straps with the big "S" hooks. Well they held, but the side of my motorhome had paint worn off in several places. I decided the $400 option was not a good deal. Have stored the motorhome indoors ever since. :(

  • I've had knots become undone with very windy/gusty conditions; generally two half hitches. Maybe I'll have to learn some new knots.
  • I had my former Class C sitting in an open field when the cover blew off. When I put it back on the third time I used 500' of rope around the MH and also at midlevel, completely surrounding it. The cover got removed in the wind with all of the rope still in place. I have stored inside for the last 2 MHs.
  • I have had the cover blow off our Class A Southwind after the straps broke. But, we get a lot of winter wind in our area.

Also, I have noticed, even a light wind will cause the cover to billow if the straps are not snug. It's like a sail boat, it catches the wind.

A light wind will pull the cover off if it is not secured.
I've had it happen a few times when I installed the cover and don't immediately secure the straps. (beer break)

Don't get too excited about the cover blowing off, just make the time to secure it properly.
Your cover is not possessed. :)
