Yeah - that's what's odd and a bit scary. He lost 2 quarts in 100 miles. I would think that kind of leakage would be pretty obvious.
In any event, I hope the OP finds a more cost effective solution. I see he's looking for $15k, which is probably about right for a new engine and labor. It could be done for less than 1/4 of that with a used engine and some help from friends. Makes it hard when you're far from home, though. If he were in NJ I'd be all over it :)
