Looks like I may be a Georgian for the next couple of years... Took a look at the pan today, damage I could see is clearly blown OUT, not in, no sign of a leak other than the big one but

2: May have missed several places
3: Checked the site I was on, what looks like oil spots on the grass, but pattern suggests not the problem.
I would let your insurance company determine the cause. After all, something caused a non-oil burning engine to lose several quarts in a short period of time. Who knows, the small leak from damage could have been in the exact same place as the rod coming out in the pan. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
This is more just a curiosity. I saw a couple of people refer to "insurance companies" for this issue. More of a foreigner question but do Insurance companies in the US cover things like blown engines. I can't imagine any insurance company covering a blown engine in Canada but am not familiar with what happens in foreign countries. Thanks in advance.
