There have been several failures one of which I looked at real time. On some W22 chassis around 2002-2004 or so the engine oil cooler lines were getting loose and making contact with the drivers side engine mount. The mount vibration will eventually gnaw through the tubing and start a fine spray of escaping engine oil. Eventually worse leakage and engine failure can occur if the problem is not addressed quickly.

You never know - if one of those lines opened up you'd lose a lot of oil in a very short period of time.
Mine's a P30. I took the engine out, inspected everything, and put it back together on the new engine. My leak is the result of something I must not have tightened down properly. Like I've said before, most of my pain is self-inflicted :)
