When it comes to durability, I think many engine builders would disagree with you. A properly machined "seasoned" block will typically be stronger and hold tolerances much better because it has already gone through hundreds or thousands of heat cycles. However, I wouldn't use any big block Chevy crankshaft that has been ground undersized since the crank journals are too small for the engine displacement to begin with.
