The manufacturer I worked for usually only used the block and covers in their remans. The crank, rods and pistons were always new. They very seldom reused a cylinder head. New heads and head internals were the norm. Why? Because installing new parts is cheaper than inspecting old parts for reusability. Now if you were to buy a reman engine from a rebuilder that is an entirely different kettle of fish. If you purchased a reman auto trans from the manfacturer it will have a new valve body, new clutch drums , etc. Normally the case, oil pan and external bolt ons are reused. A factory reman will also include all of the manfacturing upgrades that had occurred prior to the date of assembly on the reman. Factory and aftermarket remans are 2 entirely different animals.
