I left the Class A ranks for the truck/5ver group. One of the main reasons was I was sick and tired of maintaining a tow car drivetrain plus a Class A drivetrain.
As I sit here with my morning coffee, I wonder what the outcome would have been if the truck engine blew vs a Class A engine for a person that used their rig for extended periods of time.
Simple, you would not have a toad, or the coach itself to drive anywhere. You would be stuck where your engine failed, totally at the mercy of the towing company to take care of your truck AND your trailer. You MAY find someone that has a 5r hitch set up on a truck that can take you to an RV Park where you will stay while repairs are being done. Not sure if ERS will pay to tow a trailer that is NOT disabled.
Now you are left with the decision to repair your truck or junk it and buy another. Of course any new truck will have to be outfitted to tow your 5r.
While you wait for repairs, or a new truck to be outfitted, you are stuck in your trailer or you have to rent a car. Not difficult, but certainly a hassle.
The facts are that MOST Class A owners have another vehicle behind them for emergency transportation. When the engine goes south, they have a few more options than someone who only has one form of transportation with their pick-up.
Neither situation is great but I would rather be able to un-hook my toad and go for help than to be stuck at the side of the road with no alternatives waiting for TWO trucks to tow my truck and my trailer to the nearest repair facility and RV park.
