Where you using the clip pins that it comes with?
In my travels I have seen many RV's where they came loose. IMHO I don't think they are foolproof they get loose and sloppy over time and don't click down secure enough for me.
I replaced both of those clips with hitch pins which blueox sells as a kit. One for the tow bar and 2 for the toad. All keyed alike. They don't pop open or come loose. And I don't have to worry about someone lifting my tow bar off the MH when not towing and I don't have to keep taking it on and off to keep it from being stolen.
