I have a 2011 450 in a 29' MH and use T/H when going down hills, but sometimes, the engine downshifts automatically to a lower gear that I consider to low. This happens while in T/H and I brake it a little. I realize that "to low" is relative, but the engine is screaming. I then take it out of T/H and manual brake it for a few seconds and then reapply T/H. I wonder if I need to slow down a bit, I should take it out of T/H and manually gear it down. What are your thoughts?
It is programmed not to allow it to hurt itself. The E-series are are electronically governed to de-fuel around 5200 RPM, but the modular family of motors can tolerate much higher RPMs. The computer actually won't let you select a gear that would over-run the motor. You can throw it into 1st on the freeway, and it will sequentially shift down when its slow enough to do so safely.
