Broken down. Fuel pump issue?

We have a 96 fleetwood southwind with a big block fuel injected Chevy engine. We are stuck in a Walmart parking lot. The engine started sputtering and stalled out. I was able to get it restarted and get to an auto parts store and put a new fuel filter on. It started right back up, went another ten miles and it died again. The pump in the tank is coming on when the key is turned to acc. I'm getting fuel up to the top of the engine before the injection system. I'm getting spark from the coil, but it still won't start. I was just able to get a fuel pressure gauge and will check it in the morning, but I'm looking to find out what the spec is for fuel pressure on these injected models is. I figure the pump must be wearing out and when it gets hot it quits, but I would like to know what pressure it should have before I go through the trouble of dropping the tank. Any help would be appreciated. It's not going to be a fun trying to get it done in a parking lot.

    surfside, you're my kind of guy. i have to give you a pat on the back for a job well done, persistence is the key.
    i had a water pump lock up on me in las vegas, and it was also at a walmart.
    the manager let me pull around back so i would be out of the way. i was able to replace the pump at night because the outside temp was 110 degrees during the day.
    thanks to that manager i was able to solve a problem that the local dealer said would take 6 days.
    i have done many repairs at a walmart parking lot as i travel between jobs.
    lots of folks talk down about walmart, but i think walmart is great. all you have to do is ask.

    I now have a 2800 page chassis manual for a 96 P30 including motorhomes. I would be happy to share whatever information needed.

    1996 was the year Vortec came out but there were also many built with the TBI in the same year. They could have been leftover chassis.

    I am going to trouble you with another question. Did you buy the entire sending unit with a pump, float, & lines, or just the pump module??

    When you are up to your behind in alligators it's hard to remember the object of the chore was to drain the swamp.

    Sounds like you were fighting a lot of battles!

    This man is my hero! That is enough stuff going wrong, all at the same time, to make a person want to push it off a cliff! You methodically fixed things one at a time. Perfect!

    Newbies need to read this. You need to be handy with a wrench. Or, you better be ready to pay someone dearly and wait. Wait until they have time to deal with you.

    Thanks for the info, it has really helped. Luckily for me mine stopped under a gas canopy, with a towing service behind the station, and a brand new motel just around the corner. Everyone involved around Pioneer, TN was very helpful, It could have been a much worse situation if not for the locals kindness.
