Broken Kwikee steps

On my 06 Phaeton the metal connecting bar at the top of the bottom step has broken at a rivet spot. The top step is secure and the steps open a close properly. Can this be fixed or do I have to replace the entire 2 step assembly?

  • The steps are made out of mild steel..........personally, I would weld it.....then install a shoulder bolt and stepped bronze bushings and lock nut......

  • Weld it or make a new one. By the time you weld it and clean it up so it pivots freely it might faster to cut a new piece and drill the holes.

For the cost and work to install a new set of steps I would do a lot of repairs.
  • if you have to replace them check e-bay. you can buy new step's less gearmotor and controls quite reasonable.
  • Kwikee does not supply that part, but Kwikee does sell the step without the Motor/Controller/Light and harness. You transfer all the electric/mechanical components to the new step. Doug

OP says the bar is broken, not the rivet.

    OP: Can it be welded?
