My skid plate on the rear of my Class C finally wore out and snapped. It only dragged going in and out of my driveway.I would like to hear from anyone that used skid wheels (steel, rubber, swivel??) Pros and cons to installing them, using them, wear and tear?I will be installing them on my hitch instead of the current skid plates. Wondering if they need to be lower or at the same height as the current skids?

If you install them on the hitch, that's going to be in the middle of your trailer. What happens when you're turning out of your drive when you're turning rather sharply and the hitch roller is out in the street but the right or left corner of the bumper is still over the drive and dragging?Bill

If you set them up too low you could end up with the drive wheels not having traction in some cases.

I would install new skid plates in the same location as the old ones. I still have one wheel out of two that someone installed on the back of my 5th wheel. Most wheels are just not going to hold up as skids.

Hi,I have a single large metal roller installed in my hitch receiver. It works well for those access ramps that are on the large side. No problems with "hanging up" on it.

What cement? My driveway is flatter than roadkill in the desert. it's the dang approaches to service stations and walmarts....also a search on the internet and i saw some casters being used that I wouldn't put on a work cart, go cheap and do it again real soon. Some were bolted on with some cheesy clamps..geez.....

Wait until you see what the steel while does to your cement. Any way you go something will happen. Use rubber wheels, the rubber wears off fast. You just need to find out what you will accept.

I really like that idea,I often have my 12ft. trailer with Polaris on there, I think I saw one receiver with the roller mounted underneath.

This was my answer to the tail dragger:

I made this from a roller like the one pictured in the previous post, and part of an old ball mount. It worked like a charm!

Yes. My skid plates should be replaced so my thought was two of these.

My dad had a hitch mounted wheel for years. It worked great. Sometimes it used to make a resounding clang when it would hit while loading or unloading from ferries. It sure got the deck crew's attention.

I would not mount them lower than the originals. If you mount them lower, you'll just hit the skid plate/wheels more when going up your driveway, unless perchance you've done something to smooth out that transition.
