I have this 2000 Fleetwood Bounder 36S and the plastic strikes that latch the storage compartment doors are broken and I have never seen any others like these. The latch mechanism that is usually on the outside edges of the doors and held in place by two screws are inside the door itself with the two screws holding them in place. Apparently the screws have nuts behind the striker assembly because once loosened they turn forever. I tried taking the door trim off to get inside, but it didn't want to separate at all. I don't want to damage the storage door but I need to replace the broken latches. I can send a picture if that would help. Thanks........
Lmcneil,
Well Sir, on our last coach, a '99 Fleetwood Bounder 34V with the F-53 Chassis and V-10, I had at least two of those latches break. And if I recall, I literally had to take the compartment door apart, to gain access to the back side of the latch mechanism. I thought it was pretty nuts for Fleetwood to have designed things that way but, it is what it is.
It took a little work but, eventually all the corners etc. of the door itself gave way and, the door came apart. Now, I can't remember exactly how I remedied the that idiotic design but, I did change the attachment system so if and when, I ever had to remove and install, another latch, it would be easier.
I wish I could give your more detailed info on what and how I did it but, my mind, is not what it used to be, which, was not much in the first place. But, if I recall (hard to do for me) I'm pretty sure it's done the way I stated, the door has to come apart to gain access.
