bug deflector

they are more decoration than anything else. I had one on my old F250 with a slide in camper, saw no real effect from it. Also have gotten chips etc on the new pickup even with one. So in general dont think they will do much but would like to find some for the door windows.

I put one on my brand new F-150 and it took very little time to scrub off the paint under the deflector. I replaced the little plastic stick-on buttons continuously, but that didn't prevent the paint damage.

After several years the deflector cracked in a few places. I use Armor-All constantly on it.

I can buy replacement plastic captive screws that connect it to the hood and they are cheap $$$ but only last about a year each.

I leave it on because the paint damage under it is ugly.

If properly fitted , they will save the nose of the hood from rock chips.

Saying that years ago working at a Ford dealership in the Service Dept.
Ford had put out a TSB on causes for mpg lose.
Extended mirrors, running boards, BUG DEFLECTORS, lift kits, larger tires, removing lower valance piece under front bumper, mud flaps both front and or rear.
Can't recall the % each one cost mpg, but they took a truck on a closed track did several test runs for a base mpg. Then installed each item listed above then road test, removed installed next item road test (never installed lift kit and tested) and so on finally with all items listed (minus the lift kit) and came up with a loss of 2.9 mpg.

I do believe that overall, the bug deflector actually works to reduce the pileup of bugs on the windshield.

Agreed. If fitted properly they do help. Had one on my SUV when a large rock bounced from a truck and hit it right in front of me. Cracked the deflector and threw the rock up over the windshield. Not a mark on the front of the hood and never hit the windshield (or my face).

I've seen the advertisement on how they're supposed to work, but not what effect the large overhang has. Seems it might direct the airflow right to the underside of the cabover.

Photobug, you could be absolutely right, since it seems normally the air should be deflected just over the roof of your PU. Still, it seems likely to at least deflect the bugs from your windshield.

If, then, all the former is true, I would bet cleaning those bugs for your rig would be gangs of fun.
